In a recent interview, Scott McTominay shared insights into the rigorous training regimen of Premier League football players, emphasizing the intensity and commitment required to excel. The 6ft 3in midfielder has made a strong start to the season with Manchester United, scoring five goals, including two that contributed to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in early December.
McTominay posted an Instagram photo showcasing his well-toned physique while working out late at night before the 2022-23 season. He recalled how his former teammate, Paul Pogba, significantly influenced his approach to fitness, particularly regarding muscle growth.
“I think people would be shocked if they knew how hard players work in the gym and how high of an intensity you have to maintain to reach those goals,” McTominay stated in an interview with He recounted Pogba’s advice: “When you get to 23, you’ll put on the muscle. When nothing happened, I wondered, ‘Where is it then?!’”
Thanks to his dedication, McTominay has become a regular starter under manager Erik ten Hag, appearing in 12 of United’s 16 Premier League games this season. Last season, he played 24 matches but started only ten, leading to speculation about his future, including rumored negotiations with West Ham for more playing time.
McTominay’s performance has garnered praise, with the midfielder expressing his enjoyment of gym workouts and his disciplined lifestyle. “I appreciate small triumphs and succeed at competing in that category. The same applies to what I eat and how much sleep I get. I am quite disciplined, and I am proud of it,” he said.
As the season progresses, McTominay continues to highlight the importance of hard work and dedication in both fitness and football, setting an example for aspiring athletes.
