Real Madrid is reportedly keen on acquiring Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot amid their unsuccessful attempts to secure Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, whose contract is expiring soon.
With Liverpool excelling in the Premier League and Alexander-Arnold’s popularity among local fans, Real Madrid is reconsidering their pursuit of the English player, especially considering the potential for a contract extension at Anfield.
Instead, under coach Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid is now eyeing Dalot as an alternative to Alexander-Arnold. According to reports from the Spanish outlet Relevo, Madrid values Dalot at around £41 million and had shown interest in him while Erik ten Hag was still in charge at United.
Diogo Dalot, 25, has accumulated 178 appearances for Manchester United and was named Player of the Year by his teammates last season. He played a pivotal role during the challenging 2023-24 season, starting 35 out of 38 Premier League matches and scoring two goals.
On the other hand, Real Madrid could potentially acquire Alexander-Arnold for free as his contract approaches its final months with Liverpool. Despite this, manager Arne Slot is eager to convince him to sign a new deal, especially given the club’s recent successes.
Ruben Amorim, the new manager at United, is expected to assess the squad going forward, with Dalot likely to retain a significant role. He signed a new contract in May 2023, which ties him to the club for another four years.
Real Madrid, currently without their regular right-back Dani Carvajal due to injury, remains attentive to Liverpool’s situation, particularly after their recent victory over the English side in Europe. Madrid aims to handle the Alexander-Arnold situation with respect, given his impressive track record at Liverpool and his potential availability for a free transfer in the upcoming months
