Chelsea has reportedly joined the list of Premier League clubs interested in Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu.
Dorgu, a Danish international, has caught the attention of several EPL clubs after making an outstanding start in Serie A in 2023/24.
The 20-year-old cemented himself as first-choice left-back in the latter weeks of the season, making eight consecutive appearances as Lecce drew away from relegation.
Two league goals were a bonus, and his form has carried over into 2024/25, with two league goals already scored.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United and Tottenham have shown interest in Dorgu, with the former concerned about Luke Shaw’s ongoing injury troubles.
The spurs already have Destiny Udgoie as left-back, and Chelsea may be in a better position than the Red Devils, given that Ruben Amorim’s plans for the part remain unknown.
Enzo Maresca has indicated that Ben Chilwell is not in his plans, with the former Leicester City defender expected to go in January as Marc Cucurella is preferred at left-back.
Cucurella returned to Chelsea this summer after playing an important role in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 victory, but his defensive ability remains a concern.
Maresca has started him in seven of Chelsea’s ten Premier League games so far in 2024/25, but Dorgu’s tenacity and recovery rate are important aspects of the Blues’ playing style, and Lecce values him at roughly £15 million ($20 million).
