Robert De Niro revealed that he celebrated his daughter Gia’s first birthday by throwing a ‘sweet’ party.

The 80-year-old actor welcomed his youngest child, whom he shares with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen, in April of last year, making him one of the oldest fathers on record.

The Taxi Driver star recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight and told the media outlet that his family threw a celebration to commemorate his daughter’s special day last month.

De Niro recalled that his family presented Gia with ‘a little cake, it was very nice, sweet.’

The Academy Award-winning performer went on to speak highly of his youngest child and opened up about the positive impact she had made on his life.

‘Well, she’s pure joy; there’s nothing about her, no judgment, nothing; she just is what she is, and it’s just pure delight for goodness sakes,’ he replied.

De Niro has seven children, the eldest of which is his adoptive daughter Drena, who is 51.

He co-created the film with his ex-wife Diahnne Abbott, with whom he had his oldest son Raphael, 47, in 1976.

In 1995, the star of The King of Comedy had twin boys Julian and Aaron, who he shares with model Toukie Smith.

After marrying Grace Hightower, the performer has two children: Elliot, 25, and Helen, 12.

De Niro has also become the father of four grandchildren, one of whom died in July of last year.

In an interview with The Guardian, the Goodfellas star revealed that he has learnt to appreciate the uncertainties of parenthood.

‘It’s always good and intriguing, and you have no idea what’s going to happen,’ he said.

The artist went on to say that, while he had an active role in Gia’s life, Chen did most of the ‘heavy lifting’ with their daughter.

He went on, ‘I’m there to support my girlfriend. But she does the work. And we have help, which is very important.

The Casino actor went on to express his appreciation for the different aspects of parenting that come with having children of various ages.

‘With a baby, things are different than with my 11-year-old. My adult children. My grandchildren. It’s all different,” he explained.
