Arnold Schwarzenegger has praised his son-in-law Chris Pratt for being a ‘really strict father’ as he revealed daughter Katherine and the Guardians of the Galaxy star are using parenting techniques favored by her mother, Maria Shriver

Arnold Schwarzenegger has praised his son-in-law Chris Pratt for being a ‘really strict father’ as he revealed daughter Katherine and the Guardians of the Galaxy star are using parenting techniques favored by her mother, Maria Shriver.

Chris, 44, is married to Arnold’s eldest daughter Katherine, and the couple share daughters Lyla, three, and one-year-old Eloise. Chris also has son Jack, 11, with his ex-wife Anna Faris.

During an appearance on Monday’s episode of The View, Arnold waxed lyrical about Chris, telling host Sunny Hostin: ‘Chris Pratt, he’s a really strict father, and he’s a really good father and a good husband.’

Referring to his 33-year-old daughter Katherine, and his ex-wife Maria, The Terminator star continued: ‘My daughter is fantastic, she uses all the rules that my wife used to. Maria was a fantastic mother always, and still is.’

Arnold and Maria have four children: Katherine, Christina (32), Patrick (30), and Christopher (26). He also fathered Joseph, 26, with the family’s longstanding housekeeper Mildred Baena, who was born just a few days after Christopher in 1997.

When asked how they raised their children, Arnold told the group that Maria took a different approach, the American approach. I had a European approach, but it was not really European, as I recall.

“They had a strict upbringing and a good education. Both parents were always present, but my wife was there much more, about 80% of the time.”

Sunny, 54, asked the Hollywood movie star if he intends to be as harsh with his grandchildren as he was with his own children.

‘Well, that’s an excellent question, since the bottom line is that I no longer have to be so strict! [It’s] an adventure where I can play alongside them. They interact with the animals, and I let them ride the donkey and pony, play with the horses and pig, feed the dogs, and perform other activities.

‘And they love me because they have cookies that they feed to the animals, and then there’s the discipline that my daughter and son-in-law have to do.’

“Let Chris Pratt and Katherine have the headache of disciplining them,” he quipped, as The View hosts began to giggle.

‘She [Katherine] talks about what I used to do… she would leave her shoes and I would say, “If you leave your shoes there one more time and don’t put them in the mudroom or your room, I’m going to throw them in the fireplace,” and she would answer, “Yeah, yeah, daddy.”

The Hollywood star was photographed with his daughter Katherine as a child.

‘The next time she left it there, I took the shoes and put them into the fire, which burnt and caused her cry, but she never left her shoes there again. That was it.

I used to discipline them, but not my grandchildren. They can do whatever they want! It makes no difference; we have a great time,’ he said.

Katherine has previously mentioned parenting her daughters, stating that she does ‘exactly what my parents did’.

Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show earlier this year, she said: ‘For my husband [Chris Pratt] and I, it’s really important to be able to simply instill that sense of family and the importance of family.

‘It’s also critical to offer them privacy and raise them with good morals, faith, and family.’
