Manchester United are interested in Aston Villa center-back Pau Torres, according to reports in Spain.
Over the weekend, The Peoples Person reported that United missed out on Villa wonder John Durán despite closely scouting the Colombian striker during his time in the MLS with the Chicago Fire.
Similarly, the Red Devils were believed to be interested in Torres before he joined Birmingham from Villarreal in 2023.
The Spaniard adapted quickly to English football and has established himself as one of Unai Emery’s most trusted defensive players.
He also gave a commanding display and helped his team retain a clean sheet against the Manchester giants in a goalless draw over the weekend.
According to Fichajes, Torres has “sparked” interest at Manchester United, who are supposedly “willing to offer a figure close to €50 million” to transfer the Villa star to Old Trafford.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Villa “have not ruled out accepting” the aforementioned sum.
Despite his good stint under Emery in England, the prospect of joining a club of United’s prestige would be considered as a significant step forward in the Spain international’s career.
It is also believed that Villa would “look favourably” on a sale for a cost in the range of €50 million, which would allow them to add reinforcements to Emery’s Villa Park project.
Over the summer, United spent substantially on central defenders, signing Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt. The former is still on the sidelines owing to injury, while the latter was benched against Villa as Ten Hag unexpectedly chose to trust Jonny Evans.
Evans was voted Man of the Match for his outstanding performance, but at 36, he cannot be considered a long-term answer.
As a result, many believe United will be looking for a new centre-back soon.
