Read the most recent team news from both sides as Liverpool prepares to face AC Milan in the Champions League. The Reds will face I Rossoneri at San Siro on Tuesday night in their return to the top European tournament. The game begins at 8 p.m. BST.
Arne Slot’s travelling team for the encounter consisted of 23 players, including summer addition Federico Chiesa from Italy.
The new No. 14 could make his club debut in the league phase match, though he is unlikely to start.
.
“He’s in our squad selection for the first time. Slot told the reporters on Monday night, “And since I said it’s the first time he’s in our team selection, it would be a big surprise for him and for everyone if he started tomorrow.”
“So, I don’t think you should anticipate him to start, but if we need him, he can make his first few minutes tomorrow. We are going to witness that tomorrow.
“Don’t anticipate him to be in the starting lineup because he has been practicing independently with Juve [his former club] for a considerable amount of time and has recently joined us for a few weeks.
“Hopefully he can get some playing time in the next games, but it’s too early for him to play ninety minutes.”
During his pre-game press conference, Slot was asked about midfielder Alexis MacAllister and whether the Argentine would be deployed in a rotational system.
“I believe you observed that I removed him after sixty minutes, or approximately sixty minutes, in the match against Nottingham Forest,” the manager retorted.
That also had to do with the fact that he didn’t play the entire ninety minutes for the national team because of an injury that kept him out for several days, which affected rotation in some way.
“We’ll see what decision I make tomorrow, but I think he can play again for 60 or 90 minutes tomorrow. However, he is unquestionably a crucial member of our team, just like the other 22.
Milan comes into this game off their first division success of the season, a 4-0 Serie A win against Venezia last Saturday.
Paulo Fonseca, the Reds’ head coach since June, will likely be missing midfielder Ismael Bennacer, defenders Alessandro Florenzi and Malick Thiaw, and goalkeeper Marco Sportiello.
Milan’s Champions League squad for the league round does not contain Luka Jovic.
Fonseca discussed his team’s goals during his pre-match press conference. Milan will face local rivals Internazionale this weekend.
On Monday, he stated, “The same players can play [both games], but I can also have the possibility of changing in my head.” We have three games this week, and I have to consider each one.
“I can’t forget that we have the derby in the next Serie A game, but tomorrow is the most important because it’s the next one.”
When asked directly about the breadth of his choices in midfield, Fonseca responded, “We have a lot of young players like [Kevin] Zeroli and [Silvano] Vos who has just arrived and is very good. We also had Bennacer’s injury.” We have talented athletes in this position, in my opinion.
