Just one week after pair went head-to-head in Liverpool’s overwhelming triumph over Man United, Virgil van Dijk seems to overlook Netherlands team-mate Joshua Zirkzee

Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool appeared to ignore Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee during an awkward moment while on international duty.

The Netherlands opened their Nations League campaign with a 5-2 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday.

Van Dijk captained his team, and supporters noticed a rather cold encounter in the tunnel before both teams entered the pitch.

The centre-back was seen shaking hands with all of his teammates, but chose to avoid Zirkzee.

Neither guy glanced at the other, and some have speculated that this is due to their club rivalry.

Fans were divided over who was responsible for the silence between the pair in the tunnel

‘Van Dijk does not want to know Zirkzee,’ wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.

‘Looks like Van Dijk’s not too concerned with Zirkzee at the moment! Could be an interesting rivalry brewing,’ another wrote.

Others turned the situation on its head and pinned responsibility on the forward. ‘Zirkzee airing Van Dijk,’ was one’s observation. ‘How it should be.’

One wrote: ‘I think Zirkzee is still fighting Van Dijk for beating Man United at Old Trafford.’

The international match came six days after Liverpool demolished United 3-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Van Dijk captains Liverpool while Zirkzee signed for United in the summer, making a Â£36.5million switch from Bologna.

Six days before, the two Dutch players met in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

Both guys started the big game at Old Trafford, but only Van Dijk will be satisfied after shutting out Erik ten Hag’s team.

However, any signs of significant conflict between the two were dispelled when they were photographed cuddling after Zirkzee opened the scoring for Oranje versus Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Cody Gakpo of Liverpool and former Manchester United loanee Wout Weghorst both scored in Ronald Koeman’s side’s overwhelming victory.
