After a fight with Kai Havertz, Wоlves defender Yersоn Mоsquera escaped a red card, leaving Arsenal suppоrters furiоus.
The two players were entangled in a knot of arms when the event happened early in the second half.
In an attempt to stop the Colombian from playing, Havertz put his left arm around Mosquera; however, the Wolves defender became clearly irritated and pushed Havertz to the ground.
Then Mоsquera seemed tо put his right hand dоwn hard оn Havertz’s neck.
Mosquera then held up his hand in apparent apology after realising what he had just done, and then he too slowly collapsed onto the field.
Fortunately for Wolves and Mosquera, he got away with it without getting a card for it.
On social media, however, Arsenal supporters weren’t nearly as understanding; many were perplexed as to how the Wolves player was let to continue playing.
Refereeing is an absolute travesty, as @afcadil stated on X. It’s absurd how he can’t be dismissed or even carded for this. @FA_PGMOL, get it together!
Another supporter brought up the contentious red card incident from Newcastle’s match against Southampton, in which Ben Brereton Diaz down to the ground after Fabian Schar struck him in the head.
“PGMOL is so useless, only day one,” @absol01 continued. The red card is for heads together, but not for throat grabs.
‘Straight red, but the rules don’t apply to Arsenal!’ tweeted @gunner_mtl.
“This is terrible refereeing and a perplexing decision by VAR,” stated @SantiPodolski.
Mosquera made headlines for more reasons than just the incident involving Havertz; at one point, he seemed to touch Gabriel Jesus’ buttocks.
The Arsenal striker lashed out in response and picked up a yellow card.
Ultimately it was Havertz who had the last laugh over Mosquera as Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners at the Emirates Stadium.
Havertz scored the opener for the Gunners in the 25th minute when he directed a header past Jose Sa to hand the hosts a deserved lead.
Arsenal doubled their advantage in the 74th minute as Havertz turned provider for Bukayo Saka.
