William Saliba thinks Riccardo Calafiori, the latest acquisition for Arsenal, will make an immediate impression at the Emirates this season.
On Sunday afternoon, Calafiori made his debut for his new team as the Gunners defeated Lyon 2-0 in their final preseason friendly before the Premier League season began.
On Saturday, Arsenal kicks off their season against Wolves. Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes scored close range goals as Arsenal easily defeated the Ligue 1 team.
After 64 minutes, Calafiori, who cost £42 million to sign from Bologna, made his debut, first filling the position of left defender after Oleksandr Zinchenko was substituted.
After Myles Lewis-Skelly was brought in, he moved inside to center-half and partnered with Saliba late in the game.
When they were together on the pitch, the France international was impressed with what he saw in the Italian.
“Yes, I’m very happy for him,” Saliba expressed on the official Arsenal website.
“I believe this is just the beginning; he’s a young, extremely talented player.” We’re overjoyed to have him here, and I hope he has a fantastic season.
Mikel Arteta was likewise pleased with Calafiori’s stage debut.
“He’s а true defender whо cаn plаy in twо оr three pоsitiоns, which gives him а lоt оf versаtility,” the mаnаger оf аrsenаl remаrked. “Especiаlly in аttаck, he cаn оccupy different spаces.”
It’s amazing how he presses and moves physically when engaging in a duel. Furthermore, it’s clear that he accomplished a lot last year and is a player who can help us.
With the start of the new season this week, Calafiori is Arsenal’s only new recruit to yet, although David Raya’s loan move was made permanent.
The midfield player Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad is reportedly the top target for the Gunners, who are still looking for a fresh addition.
