Martin Zubimendi is Liverpool’s #1 summer target.

So far, the Reds have had a rather quiet window. Many expected Arne Slot to make significant moves in the transfer market, but the Dutchman has yet to sign a single player during this window.

 With the new Premier League season just a week away, Liverpool is working hard to bring in new players, and Zubimendi is one of those they want.

Now there is a really favourable update on the situation.

Zubimendi has been on the radar of Premier League clubs for some time.

The Spaniard has been one of La Liga’s most impressive midfielders in recent seasons. He has been fantastic for Real Sociedad, and many large teams have been chasing him.

So far, all parties who have attempted to sign Zubimendi have failed to persuade him. Despite this, Liverpool chose to engage in talks in an attempt to persuade him to reconsider.

 
David Ornstein stated that Liverpool has an advantage in the competition to recruit Zubimendi because Richard Hughes is very close to his agency.

That appears to have worked in the Reds’ favour.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany has stated that Zubimendi is now ‘eager’ to quit Real Sociedad and join Liverpool.

He has stated that the midfielder wishes to come to Anfield immediately, and negotiations between the two teams are now underway to finalise the transfer.

Plettenberg tweeted: “FC Liverpool are pushing to sign Martin Zubimendi with ongoing talks. 25 y/o midfielder is keen to join Liverpool with immediate effect. His agency Idub Global has the best connections with Liverpool as they are also managing Xabi Alonso.

“It’s unclear whether Liverpool has to pay the €60m release clause or whether free negotiations are possible.”

Liverpool’s midfield has been their weak point for more than a year.

Since Fabinho’s departure, the Reds have struggled in the number six position and have yet to resolve the issue.

Wataru Endo has done well at times, while Alexis MacAllister has also performed well in that role. However, neither of them are long-term options that can propel Liverpool to the next level.

 

That is why Zubimendi is being pursued, and the skilled Spaniard is an excellent choice for Slot’s side in the forthcoming season.

The Real Sociedad player is outstanding on the ball, has good positional awareness, and can play deep. This is exactly what Slot is searching for.

We believe Zubimendi would be an excellent addition for Liverpool if the deal can be completed in the coming days.
