Arsenal’s latest signing Riccardo Calafiori is committed to help the club achieve tremendous success next season.

The club announced the signing of the defender on Monday, making him Mikel Arteta’s fourth addition this summer. Arsenal spent £33.7 million for his services, which could increase to £42 million with add-ons, when he moved from Serie A club Bologna.

Arsenal beat Juventus to Calafiori’s signature, and the defender signed a five-year contract. Calafiori greeted his new teammates in the United States as pre-season preparations continue, with another friendly against Liverpool on Wednesday.

After being greeted by Arteta, Calafiori informed his teammates, “Of course, I’m delighted to be here. I waited a long time, and I hope we do well this year. “Just this, thank you.”

Arteta continued, “We welcome Riccardo and his family to Arsenal. He is an excellent signing who adds significant strength to our defence. Riccardo has a strong personality and character, as well as specialized skills that can help us win important prizes.

Sporting director Edu praised the club’s collaborative work in striking a deal for the defender, saying: “It has been a fantastic team effort to complete this transfer, and we welcome Riccardo to the family.

“We identified Riccardo as part of our strategy for signing players who suit our profile and will strengthen our squad to compete at the top level. He is only 22 years old, but he is qualified and experienced. He will quickly develop into an Arsenal player.

“Riccardo has regularly demonstrated his abilities for his club and country. He was one of Serie A’s finest players last season and performed admirably for Italy at the Euros this summer. Mikel and our coaches are delighted to begin working with Riccardo, and we are all looking forward to seeing him in our shirts.”

So far, the Gunners have signed David Raya permanently, as well as goalkeepers Tommy Setford and Lucas Nygaard. However, more acquisitions could be welcomed in north London, before the transfer market closes on September 2.
