Kai Havertz is ‘delighted’ to have a donkey named after him, and there’s a heartfelt explanation

Kai Havertz expressed his happiness that Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary named a baby foal after him.

Since he loves donkeys so much, Kai Havertz has had one named after him.

The 24-year-old is a big donkey enthusiast and is about to finish his £65 million transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal.

He has advocated against animal abuse and previously declared them to be his favorite animal.

The German international’s Chelsea nickname was actually “donkey,” indicating how much he loved animals.

In an interview with The Guardian, he stated: “I’m known as donkey by some of my teammates. It has nothing to do with my football.

“I have always had a special bond with donkeys. It’s a very peaceful animal; perhaps I identify with them since I’m also peaceful.

They simply want to go about their lives, chilling all day. I have always loved them.

“I would visit the sanctuary after a loss. You notice a human element in the animals when you look at them. It was a place of solace and healing for me.”

Havertz was raised in a shelter close to his hometown, surrounded by rescued donkeys.

He currently owns Kai, the small foal at the Sidmouth sanctuary.

Marianne Steele, CEO of The Donkey Sanctuary, commended the former Leverkusen resident for his efforts on behalf of donkeys.

“Kai has proven to be a real champion of donkeys in every sense of the word,” the woman told the BBC.

“We are so pleased to have the opportunity to nаme our new foal after him and hope he will continue to inspire people to think about donkeys differently.”
