NBA Summer League player Jaylen Brown of Boston was heard calling Bronny James “unprofessional” from his place courtside during a Lakers-Celtics game.
Brown can be seen leaning over to talk to WNBA star Angel Reese and Chicago Sky teammate and girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick about LeBron James’s oldest child, a Laker.
Reese and Gondrezick don’t seem to disagree with Brown’s position, and the Boston Celtics player expressed his disapproval of his views by shaking his head.
With significant help from his father and their agent, Rich Paul, who reportedly called other teams to persuade them not to choose the former USC guard or he would play overseas, Bronny James was selected by Los Angeles at number 55 overall in last month’s NBA choose.
Since donning the yellow and purple, Bronny’s performance in the NBA Summer League has been underwhelming; he is 0 for 15 from 3-point range.
Realizing he got caught by cameras, Brown walked back his stance a bit early Tuesday morning on social media.
“Having your son play in the NBA with you is a flex; it shows greatness and longevity,” Brown remarked. “Bronny has everything he needs to succeed around him; I’m excited to watch him grow.”
Though there has been a lot of speculation about Bronny’s potential career path if his father hadn’t been one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Brown didn’t back down from his assertion that Bronny doesn’t meet NBA standards.
Bronny committed to a four-year, $7.9 million contract, the second-largest NBA rookie contract ever, after his dad’s team selected him in the second round.
The son of LeBron James is barely ahead of Colby Jones of Sacramento, the No. 34 overall selection of the previous season who signed a contract worth $8.8 million.
Despite Brown’s selection to Team USA for the Olympics this month, LeBron is not present during Bronny’s games.
The team consists of twelve players, including two of Brown’s Celtics teammates, LeBron, Jayson Tatum, and Derrick White.
