Former Liverpool star player chose to radically change his profession and become an evangelical pastor after winning seven titles. Last Sunday, June 30, the player—who finished with 82 goals for the Reds—was installed as a pastor at the church he helped build in Maceio, his hometown.
With his spouse, Larissa, the 32-year-old forward shared a post on Instagram describing the event as “memorable and unforgettable.”
They continued, saying, “A desire burns in our hearts after encountering Christ: that others may know this love that has reached us.”
We now have a new calling and duty: to serve as pastors who collaborate with the Kingdom and follow God’s own heart.
A seven-time winner of silverware at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp has now become a pastor
The player established a church in his hometown and was consecrated as a pastor on June 30 in a radical change of career that few on Merseyside could have ever seen coming
The former Liverpool player won many honors, including the Champions League title in 2018-19.
The Brazilian, who has 55 caps for his country and won the Copa America in 2019, is clearly a devout Christian.
In 2020, he was baptized in the pool of his former teammate and countryman, Alisson Becker.
Of course, we are referring to none other than Roberto Firmino.
He played a critical role in Jurgen Klopp’s revival at Anfield. Prior to joining Liverpool, he played 140 professional appearances for Hoffenheim, scoring 38 goals.
His 82 goals for Liverpool came in slightly over 250 appearances over the course of eight seasons.
He formed a strong offensive threat alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at the time. Firmino won the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield, and Champions League while playing for Klopp.
Firmino left Liverpool at the end of the 2023 season, having slipped behind players like Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in the Anfield hierarchy.

Firmino was a cult hero on Merseyside and there was an outpouring of love for the Brazilian international who won the Premier League for Liverpool in the 2019-20 season
After 256 games, Firmino left the Reds in 2023 to play for Al-Alhi in the Saudi Pro League.
In 34 appearances since joining Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, he has nine goals.
After the season concluded, Firmino decided to fly back to Brazil and, in an emotional ceremony, return to his birthplace to become a priest.
