Liverpool ‘keen on Levi Colwill’ as they ponder a trade raid on Chelsea for highly-rated versatile defender worth £40 million

According to Graeme Bailey, Liverpool has started conversations with Chelsea about signing Levi Colwill this summer.

The Reds are said to be interested in recruiting a new defender during the current transfer window, particularly since Joel Matip left.

The Merseyside club already possesses Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate, so it appears they are trying to add a new left-sided defender to back up Virgil van Dijk, as they have been linked with a number of left-footed center-backs in recent weeks.

According to Bailey’s HITC report, Liverpool has identified Colwill as a legitimate target and has already begun talks with Chelsea to ‘enquire’ about the terms of signing him.

The Englishman is reportedly worth over £40 million, and if Liverpool can sign him for that price, it would be a terrific deal given his current age and potential. Levi Colwill - Welcome to Liverpool? 2024 - Best Skills & Tackles | HD

However, Colwill is not the only option on the Reds’ wishlist to strengthen their defence; LOSC Lille’s Leny Yoro is also on their radar, but Real Madrid are said to be the frontrunners to sign him.

Liverpool has had a long-standing interest in Colwill and was linked with a move for him last year. However, the defender ultimately decided to stay with his childhood club.

The Chelsea player is a natural centre-back, but due to Ben Chilwell’s injury last season, he played many games as a left-back instead.

The 21-year-old is comfortable playing out of the back and provides excellent defensive contributions, so his signing this summer would surely strengthen Liverpool’s backline.
