David Raya has completed his permanent transfer from Brentford by agreeing to a long-term contract with the team.
The 28-year-old goalie, who was on loan to us the previous season, played a crucial role in our achievements and the history we created. In all competitions, he made 41 appearances and recorded 20 clean sheets. David was awarded the 2023–24 Premier League Golden Glove after sixteen of those were in the Premier League.
He was 16 years old when he moved to England and signed with Blackburn Rovers. He was born in Barcelona, Spain. After earning his first promotion to the Championship and amassing 108 senior appearances for the team, he experienced success in Lancashire. A brief loan to Southport was part of his development at Blackburn.David relocated to Brentford in the summer of 2019, and he was a member of the west London club for four years, including the most recent season. He was a vital member of Thomas Frank’s squad, appearing in 161 games across all competitions and recording 54 clean sheets, including 16 in his rookie season, when he shared the Championship Golden Glove award. He contributed to the Bees’ promotion to the Premier League a year later.
Following his August loan arrival, David had an incredibly successful campaign. In addition to his impressive league performance, he put on some impressive performances throughout Europe. One of his standout performances came in the Champions League round of 16 penalty shootout against Porto, when he saved two spot kicks to advance our team to the quarterfinals for the first time in 14 years. As Spain defeated the Netherlands to win the 2023 UEFA Nations League, David contributed to his nation’s victory. He preserved a clean sheet in Spain’s 5-0 triumph over Andorra last month, as well as another in their 1-0 triumph over Albania in their last group match of the competition, as preparation for Euro 2024.
David’s return is greatly appreciated by all members of the club.”After a year on loan as a Gunner, I can finally sаy that I’m an Arsenal player for the coming years,” David stated upon making the transfer permanent. Although I’m eager to see what the future brings, I’m constantly in the moment and appreciating it.Being here is a dream come true, and I want to express my gratitude for all of your support over the past year.
“We are so happy to have completed the deal to sign David from Brentford,” stated Edu, Sporting Director. His first season with us was fantastic, and he was awarded the Premier League Golden Glove. He is a well-liked member of the club, a gifted international, and an excellent professional. During his loan with us last season, we profited greatly from everything.David’s signing is just another impressive illustration of our hiring strategy in action as we work to assemble a club that will contend for major championships. We are thrilled that he will be a significant part of our shared journey as we know he has so much more to give.”David showed us last season what an important player he is for us, so we are delighted he is now officially our player,” manager Mikel Arteta continued. We are thrilled to continue working with him because he has a significant presence in our dressing room.
We are confident that he will build on the solid foundations he laid over the previous season and experience more success working with us. Our goalkeeping team has a really talented set of players, and I love to see relationships like this one.
