As rumours of Amadou Onana joining Arsenal grow, he confirms aspirations to join a ‘international world club’

Arsenal and the Blues have been targets together recently, with the Blues notably winning the race to recruit Mykhailo Mudryk.

By declaring his desire to join a “international world club,” Amadou Onana has raised the alarms of both Arsenal and Chelsea. The 22-year-old midfield player’s strong Everton performances had previously been linked to moves to Stamford Bridge and the Emirates Stadium.

Onana, a vital member of Sean Dyche’s team, made 30 appearances in the Premier League this year, saving the Toffees from relegation. The Belgium international led Everton to safety despite being docked six points and then two more after two separate infractions of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).

For his efforts, Onana was called up to the Belgium squad, and he intends to use Euro 2024 as his opportunity to shine. In an interview with the Dutch newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws prior to the competition this summer, he expressed his want to compete internationally.

According to the Evening Standard, Onana stated, “In prior tournaments, you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs.” That’s what I try to achieve. I feel like showcasing my skills and offering myself to the elite in Europe. This European Cup is just one phase.

The Everton midfielder then disclosed his two career aspirations in an interview with the German publication Hamburger Abendblatt, stating: “I want to be a much better player.” And in three years, I want to be a player for an international world club.

In three years, I also hope to have qualified for the 2026 World Cup in America with Belgium. That’s what I dream about. I’ll do every effort to realise these aspirations as well. I must respond to this professionally, and I will.

“I’ll leave everything else to the media; I have a contract with Everton. We’ll see after the European Championships, but I’ll just give it my all there.

Football.london reported in January that Mikel Arteta was eager to expand his options in the middle of the field, and Arsenal was reportedly considering a possible deal to add Onana. Notwithstanding his aspirations to bolster his team during the holiday season, the Gunners failed to bring any fresh talent to London Colney.
