Liverpool have rejected a proposal from Newcastle United that included Anthony Gordon joining the Reds and Jarell Quansah moving in the opposite direction as part of the deal.
Despite the fact that 23-year-old attacker Gordon is a player they admire, the Liverpool club did not think the transaction was a good fit.
Gordon, who joined the Magpies for £45 million in January 2023, is now with the England squad at Euro 2024, having come on as a late replacement in Tuesday’s goalless draw with Slovenia in his sole appearance so far.
He scored 11 league goals for Newcastle last season and was named the club’s 2023-24 player of the season. He is also a favourite of Paris St-Germain.
Liverpool made no offer and would not consider losing 21-year-old Quansah.
The centre-back established himself as a first-team regular last season and was named to England’s preliminary Euro 2024 squad, but did not make the final 26-man roster.
Furthermore, Liverpool has several of forward alternatives, including Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota.
BBC Sport contacted Newcastle for comment.
