Bukayo Saka had an exciting game for England tonight, which saw the Arsenal star play at left-back.
Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice began the game for Arsenal in what turned out to be another difficult evening for England.
Gareth Southgate’s side appeared to be on their way to a stunning Euro 2024 departure when Slovakia’s Ivan Schranz opened the score in the first half.
The Three Lions struggled to produce clear-cut openings once more, and Southgate eventually moved the pack after an hour. As a result, Saka was moved to left-back, with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer replacing him on the right side.
England were spared by a remarkable goal from Jude Bellingham in stoppage time, and Harry Kane gave them a 2-1 lead at the start of extra time.
However, it’s fair to say that former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara expected more from Saka during the game.
O’Hara gives Saka verdict as England defeats Slovakia.
Saka contributed significantly to England’s 2-1 triumph over Slovakia by playing the complete 120 minutes.
With England chasing the game, Eberechi Eze was added to the mix, forcing Saka to play right wing-back despite starting at left-back.
However, O’Hara hoped to see more from Saka while he was playing off the right side of the front three.
During talkSPORT’s watch-along, the former Tottenham player said: “Saka is having one, mate.” Saka must provide us with more.
Saka continues to prove his importance to England.
Despite having to play three positions in today’s last-16 match, Saka did his part to assist England advance to the quarterfinals.
Saka wasn’t at his best from the right side, but his adaptability helped Southgate make the necessary adjustments this evening.
It’s unlikely that the 22-year-old will be eager to return to full-back, but it will be interesting to see what Southgate does in the future.
Luke Shaw has failed to play a single minute at the Euros, despite returning to training last week. With Kieran Trippier failing at left-back, the England manager must make a change in that position.
