According RMC Sport, the Gunners are interested in the 20-year-old but competing London sides will fight Mikel Arteta’s team.

Albert Sambi Lokonga is another centre midfield player Arsenal has on file.

However, despite only starting three league games since November, the Belgian was unable to establish himself as a star athlete.

The Belgium international travelled from Hamburg to Lille for £6 million a year ago.

And he has already been connected to a Premier League move following an impact in his first season in France.

Thought to be of interest to Arteta, the defensive midfielder stands at 6 feet 5 inches.

Onana was called up to the senior Belgium team for the first time last month based on his great club play. He got his first cap on the team’s loss to the Netherlands.

Other unidentified London clubs are reportedly also interested in the midfield player, according to Sacha Tavolieri of RMC Sport, so the Gunners could need to move quickly to complete the acquisition.

Onana started 17 games and made 42 appearances for Lille last season as the French team earned first-time Champions League knockout stage progress.

Arteta reportedly wants to improve his defensive midfield options to provide Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka some backup.

Contracts expiring next season allow both Lucas Torreira and Mohamed Elneny, who recently returned from a loan spell at Fiorentina, to be transferred away this summer for a fee.

Arsenal also owns Albert Sambi Lokonga as another centre midfield midfielder.

Nevertheless, the Belgian failed to establish himself as a top athlete after starting just three league games since November.
