After Ian Wright proposed that Bukayo Saka play left back for England in Euro 2024, footage of him impressing for Arsenal has surfaced.
Saka started the first 1-0 triumph over Serbia and all three of the Three Lions’ group games in Germany. Saka also contributed an assist for Jude Bellingham.
In the dull 0-0 draw with Slovenia yesterday night, the winger scored himself, but the goal was ruled off because Phil Foden was offside during the build-up.
Despite being the Group C champions, Gareth Southgate’s team has not impressed. Meanwhile, when Cole Palmer, the standout player for Chelsea, made a spectacular cameo during the final 20 minutes in Cologne, calls for him to start have become louder.
Ian Wright suggested Bukayo Saka could play at left back for England at Euro 2024

Wright feels that by starting Saka at left back instead of Kieran Trippier, and Palmer on the right flank, Southgate would maintain balance in the squad.
Several videos of Saka excelling at full back when he was a young player at the club level have reappeared on social media in response to the remarks made by the legendary Arsenal player.
In the brief clip, Saka can be seen ghosting past opponents in the middle of the pitch and bombing down the left side while wearing the No. 3 on his back.
With his captivating dribbling skills, the young player recorded multiple assists and appeared to be an all-around player, virtually securing his place in the starting lineup.
In fact, Saka attracted the attention of Unai Emery, the manager of Arsenal at the time, and he was promptly called up to the senior squad in 2018 to cover for Sead Kolasinac.
Naturally, he would eventually establish himself as a more advanced member of the starting lineup, but Wright has suggested that it could be advantageous to bench him.
‘As great as Saka has done for England in terms of what he creates and his goals and assists, he is a natural left-sided player,’ Wright said.
‘He started playing for England on the left at youth level, he started at Arsenal on the left. If that’s going to give you the balance and gets you Cole Palmer in the team, it’s something you have to at least look at.
Indeed, Kyle Walker is capable of playing at left back; nonetheless, the issue remаins the same with the player entering the field and nobody leaving. Since Saka is a natural left-footer, we could use our entire left side.
Following yesterday’s final whistle, England was heckled off the ground, and Southgate acknowledged that the responses are “creating an unusual environment” for his players.
“I recognise the story being told about me, and that benefits the team more than it does them,” he remarked. However, it’s making for an odd environment in which to work.
‘I’ve not seen any other team qualify and receive equivalent,’ said Southgate, who was also showered with plastic bееr mugs. I’m happy of the players for how they’re handling it, but I also understand it and won’t back down from it.
