AGENT DEC: Declan Rice and Ivan Toney become instant best friends at England camp in potential Arsenal transfer boost

If IVAN TONEY moves to the Emirates this summer, he will have an instant best friend in the Arsenal dressing room.

That’s because he’s so close to Declan Rice that if he had to choose one member of England’s Euro squad to spend a year with on a desert island, he’d prefer Toney above the other 24!

Rice, a Gunners player, was asked the same question while appearing on the FA show Lions’ Den in Germany with long-term Arsenal target Toney.

Midfielder Rice responded, “It’s an easy answer, the man next to me.”

“We’re on the same page; we have the same hobbies and music. We both enjoy the same pastimes. We get along pretty well, so certainly Ivan.”

Toney, 28, who is due to depart Brentford this summer, added: “I don’t think we would be worried about being stuck, we would just catch (have) jokes.”

Since Toney’s first Three Lions call-up in September 2022, the unusual pair have become close friends.

They knew they’d get along even before that, based on how they interacted on the pitch when they played against each other in the Premier League.

Rice talked about: “When I was at West Ham, he used to banter me on the pitch all the time.”

Toney explained: “He would make a diag (diagonal, crossfield pass), and if it went out of play, I would yell ‘nice pass’.

“We are kind of like the same people, (we have the) same interest.”

Rice, 25, went on to say, “The way we are, the way he is, is the type of person I want to be. It’s easy.”

Rice and Toney spent downtime on the golf course

It is the newest bromance in the England camp, following Alexander-Arnold and Bellingham, Kieran Trippier and Jordan Pickford, and Lewis Dunk and Dean Henderson.

Rice introduced Toney to golf in Blankenhain, and the two regularly work out in the gym, play Uno, and serve as DJs in the dressing room.

Rice was outstanding in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, while Toney was left as an unused substitute.

When asked how Thursday’s second group game against Denmark in Frankfurt will differ from the first, Rice responded, “We’ve played Denmark quite a few times in the last few years.

“Each game in a European competition is extremely tough. They certainly have incredible individual quality.

“Serbia were really physical and forthright. I see Denmark as a more technical, tactical team. It’s probably going to be an entirely different game from what we’ve just experienced.”
