WHAT HAPPENED? Diogo Jota battles with the Czech custodian to grab the ball and execute a ‘pregnant celebration’ in respect to his unborn kid, but his goal is disallowed for offside

Diogo Jota appeared to score in Portugal’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Czechia on Tuesday night, but after heading the ball into the net, he was seen arguing with Jindrich Stanek.

After a calm first half, Lukas Provod broke the deadlock for Czechia in the 62nd minute, but Roberto Martinez’s side were handed a lifeline when Robin Hranac scored an own goal, bringing them level at 1-1.

Jota, 27, came on as a replacement for Rafael Leao in the 63rd minute and appeared to have scored the winning goal for the 2016 European champions.

Joao Cancelo blasted the ball into the penalty box, where Cristiano Ronaldo waited.

The Al-Nassr forward headed the ball down into the right post, but Jota, lurking on the edge of the six-yard box, was waiting for the rebound and headed it into the net.

Several other players from both teams arrived as tensions arose inside the goalmouth

Stanek, Czechia’s custodian, appeared to impede the Portugal attacker from taking the ball, prompting Jota to arrive and shout at the former Everton academy custodian.

As a swarm of players gathered inside the goalmouth, the custodian appeared to be forced away from the ball, which Jota picked up.

The Portugal forward then took the ball and placed it beneath his jersey before sucking his thumb in an apparent tribute to his unborn kid.

His teammates swarmed around him to celebrate the last-gasp goal, but VAR quickly ruined the party.

Referee Marco Guida later overturned the goal because it believed Ronaldo was offside for Cancelo’s first cross.

Despite this, Portugal would recover in the 93rd minute to secure the victory, with Ronaldo (left) celebrating in front of Stanek (right).

Jota headed back downfield when the decision was decided, looking disappointed.

Jota has 40 caps for Portugal and this would have been his 15th goal.

While Jota’s goal was overturned, Francisco Conceicao scored in the 92nd minute to give Martinez’s team a last-gasp triumph, with the Porto forward blasting in a spectacular strike.

Following a fight with the custodian, Ronaldo would celebrate in front of Stanek following Conceicao’s late victory.
