Premier League stars Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney have praised England’s Bukayo Saka ahead of Euro 2024.
Gareth Southgate and his players landed in Germany on Monday to begin their preparations for what they hope will be their first title in 58 years, as they look to improve on their previous Euros final loss to Italy on penalties.
England will open their campaign against Serbia on Sunday, followed by games against Denmark and Slovenia to complete the group round.
Henry and Rooney salute Saka.
Saka had a great season for Arsenal, who fell short of Manchester City in the Premier League title battle, scoring 20 goals and providing 14 assists in 47 games across all competitions.
Despite the fact that Cole Palmer broke through last season, the 22-year-old is anticipated to start on England’s right flank.
Arsenal great Henry, who knows Saka well, rated the England international’s recent performances as “outstanding.”
“I’ve known Bukayo since the academy,” he told the Premier League.
“I don’t think anyone expected him to be what he became; there was a lot of optimism, but what he’s been doing is simply amazing!
“He’s so humble, the way he sees the game, defending well, attacking well, clever the way he holds the ball, now he’s adding goals and assists to his game.”
Rooney was also full of praise for Saka, calling the England international as a “game changer,” while also praising his recent performances for both club and country.
“It’s very rare you get a wide player running off the ball and running in behind, and I think his movement is fantastic,” Rooney stated.
“You imagine his spot on the right for England is nearly certain; he is a game changer who can win games for you.
“He has been fantastic, especially the last couple of years.”
Saka will undoubtedly play an important role for England in the Euros, having been a regular in the squad for the previous two big tournaments, and his form will be critical if the Three Lions are to win.
