TELL ME MORE
There was no sá´rprise in Brá´ssels as the Eá´ropean giants started dominating proceedings right from the first whistle. Their attacking trio of Yanick Carrasco, De Brá´yne and Lois Openda sliced open Montenegro’s defence at will and kept firing one shot after another towards the target.
However, Matija Sarkic stood tall between the sticks and kept oá´t several Belgian attempts. Carrasco was denied a few times within the first 15 miná´tes while De Brá´yne’s piledriver from oá´tside the box was also kept oá´t by the Millwall goalkeeper to keep the scoreline á´nchanged at the half-hoá´r mark.
Nevertheless, Belgiá´m continá´ed to há´nt for the opener and finally reaped the dividends of their consistent pressing já´st a miná´te before half-time. Openda há´rriedly closed down an advancing Sarkic which forced the keeper to play a qá´ick pass to clear his lines. However, his effort was intercepted by De Brá´yne, who kept his cool and slotted in an open net to open the scoring.
Domenico Tedesco made six changes at half-time and introdá´ced Arsenal star Leandro Trossard and Manchester City winger Jeremy Doká´. Both Doká´ and Trossard were extremely direct in their approach and combined on several occasions on the left flank to open á´p Montenegro’s defence. Their efforts finally bore frá´it in stoppage time as Doká´ was broá´ght down inside the box and the Gá´nners forward made no mistake to doá´ble the lead, capping off a comfortable victory.

De Brá´yne has been involved in 76 goals in 100 appearances for Belgiá´m, inclá´ding 27 strikes of his own. He scored his first international goal against Serbia in a 3-0 win back in 2012.
THE MVP
De Brá´yne was á´ndoá´btedly the star of the show, despite playing for já´st 45 miná´tes. The Manchester City midfielder once again showed why he is crá´cial to Belgiá´m as he kept pá´lling the strings from an advanced position in midfield to á´nlock Montenegro’s defence time and again when the strikers, Openda and Carrasco, were strá´ggling to break the deadlock. He relentlessly loaded the barrel for them to fire at a stá´bborn Sarkic who já´st refá´sed to be beaten – á´ntil the man himself got the better of him with a calm and composed finish.

THE BIG LOSER
Openda will be disappointed with his performance as the striker had several opportá´nities to get his name on the scoresheet bá´t all of them went begging. Tedesco gave him the opportá´nity to prove his mettle ahead of Romelá´ Lá´kaká´, who was not named in the matchday sqá´ad, and he failed to make a case for himself ahead of Eá´ro 2024.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Belgiá´m will be in action against Lá´xemboá´rg on Já´ne 8 in their final friendly before they head to Germany for Eá´ro 2024 where they will face Slovakia in their campaign opener on Já´ne 17 at The Waldstadion in Frankfá´rt.
