William Saliba, a defender for Arsenal, has been left off of France’s Olympic football team.In advance of the summer’s competition in France, Thierry Henry announced his 25-man team on Monday morning. There are sixteen teams participate in the football event, which runs from July 24 to August 10.
Since their lineup has been confirmed, France is among the favourites to win the gold medal. Accomplished defenders Bafode Diakite and Leny Yoro have been included, along with Nice’s Khephren Thuram and PSG sensation Warren Zaire-Emery.
Fоrmer Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette teams up оffensively with Michael оlise and Jean-Philippe Mateta оf Crystal Palace. Henry prоbably wоuld have preferred tо name Saliba, but the 23-year-оld was left оut.
The centre defender for the Gunners will not have a lengthy summer break like other players because he is a member of France’s Euro 2024 squad in Germany. Had he participated in the Olympics, he would not have rejoined his club team until shortly before the new season began.
It was known earlier in the year that the club would try to prevent Saliba from competing in the Olympics. The defender would not be eligible to begin the 2024–25 season with Arsenal if he participated due to a FIFA rule.
Saliba has previously been considered to compete in the Olympics. He was originally selected for the Tokyo 2021 games, but decided to skip them in favour of going to pre-season to show Arteta what he could do after his Nice loan period.
The competition will be centred around Euro 2024 and Saliba, with France being one of the favourites to win. Depending on how far his country advances in Germany, football.london understands that the enormous center-back will reunite with his club teammates following a prolonged vacation.
Saliba will have time to relax before heading back to London Colney in time for the upcoming season, which is fortunate for those living in north London. Salba is probably going to make an appearance later in the trip because the Gunners are heading to the USA in July to play Man United on July 27 and Liverpool on July 31.
