After losing out on the Premier League title on the last day of the season, KAI HAVERTZ sobbed. The German made sure Arsenal fulfilled their half of the agreement by winning thrillingly late against Everton.
Kai Havertz was in tears after Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title
That completed a 2-1 triumph at the Emirates for the Gunners, who had rallied from behind after Takehiro Tomiyasu’s skillful equalizer and Idrissa Gueye’s deflected free kιck.
However, Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over West Ham at home meant that Pep Guardiola’s team had won four straight titles.
And as their second-place finish was confirmed, it was evident how devastated Arsenal was.
Havertz stumbled badly on the Emirates pitch, falling on his haunches and unable to control the outburst.
“My opinion is that sometimes it’s not fair in football but we have to accept that football is hard.
“Hopefully we can go again next year and give Arsenal fans what they need and what they are all here for.
“It’s so frustrating – it’s tough. Next year we’ll be an even better team and give everything.”
Plenty of fans piled in with messages of sympathy and support for the former Chelsea man.
After regaining his composure, the forward spoke with TNT Sports and expressed his suffering.
Havertz remarked, “What am I to do? I’m sad for all of us Arsenal supporters. Despite our best efforts, it was insufficient.
At least Arsenal went out with a win thanks to goals from Havertz and Tomiyasu, but there was also further cause for optimism at the Emirates when word spread that West Ham had equalized.
However, City finished two points ahead of Arsenal thanks to a 3-1 home victory at the Etihad Stadium capped by Rodri.
Arsenal had a nightmare start on the final day of the season when Phil Foden struck for City after just 79 seconds.
He made it 2-0 before Declan Rice accidentally headed Gueye’s set-piece beyond the stranded David Raya.
