‘Overlooked’ – Ian Wright hails ‘very intelligent’ Arsenal star who did excellent job in key area

Ian Wright praised Arsenal’s’very cerebral’ Bukayo Saka following Sunday’s 1-0 win over Manchester United, claiming he is ‘forgotten’ in one vital area.

Saka was mocked on social media for limping out in the 82nd minute at Old Trafford, where he was replaced by Gabriel Jesus.

However, Wright defended Saka and praised the Englishman after the match.

‘You look at Saka’s numbers, not just his goals and assists, but also his defensive play, which is sometimes underestimated,’ Wright told Premier League Productions.

‘He’s a very cerebral player who contributes significantly to the squad. He’s at such a high level that steady play is becoming the norm.

Meanwhile, Wright praised goalscorer Leandro Trossard, claiming that the Belgian international has emerged as the club’s finest finisher.

Speaking on Trossard’s strike, Arsenal veteran Wright said: “You saw the way and manner in which he attacked that box.” That’s his thing: finishing.

‘I’d like to observe how many of his touches are one-touch finishes when he comes in, as he crashes into the box.

‘He’s coming with Wan-Bissaka, who I’m shocked isn’t tighter. But he’s coming in and outpacing someone like him, who is very skilled at man-marking.

“I believe he is our finest finisher at Arsenal. This is evident from his numbers. This is why he’s playing instead of Martinelli.

‘We know Martinelli has the speed to hurt teams, but Trossard has the cuteness, movement, and finishing ability that are essential in games like these.’

Trossard told Sky Sports after the game that they just had one goal in mind: to win.

‘Maybe it wasn’t the prettiest one, but I believe we kept together, defended well, and in the end it was a nice win for us because we did what we had to do.’
