Inter Miami is considering potential additions for the upcoming season after missing the MLS Cup Playoffs in Lionel Messi’s first season. They are interested at Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, among other players. Messi knows him.
Suarez has been connected with Inter Miami since Messi joined the club. This has raised hopes that the two former Barcelona teammates may play together again. Suarez agreed to play for the Brazilian team Gremio, but the 36-year-old has stated that he intends to quit at the end of the Brazilian season in December, one year before his two-year contract expires. Suarez played 42 games with Gremio and scored 18 goals.
Inter Miami manager Tata Martino remarked in a press conference, “As we analyze the upcoming season and our potential needs, we are considering scenarios both with and without Luis.” This indicates that the team is aggressively investigating the possibility of Suarez joining their ranks.
If Suarez’s move to Inter Miami is confirmed, it will be Messi’s third reunion with a former Barcelona teammate, following the arrivals of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba in Florida earlier this summer. Suarez and Messi enjoyed incredible success at Barcelona, winning four La Liga crowns, four Copa del Rey medals, and a Champions League trophy.
