Striker Erling Haaland had a harsh response to former midfielder Roy Keane after the MU legend mocked him for “playing like a player in League Two (England’s fourth division)”.
The Norwegian striker scored a poker shot when Man City defeated Wolves 5-1 to close the gap with Premier League leader Arsenal to one point. These 4 goals brought the 23-year-old player’s total number of goals to 36 goals in 41 appearances this season.
However, despite Haaland’s incredible achievements since arriving at the Etihad, he has endured a difficult time by his own standards recently.
After Haaland played lacklusterly in Man City’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal in round 30 of the Premier League, Roy Keane sarcastically said that he was playing like “a player in League Two (England’s fourth division)”.
This comment caused quite a stir, especially considering that Haaland broke the record for goals in a Premier League season just a year ago. Keane later admitted that he was perhaps a bit harsh, joking that Haaland was perhaps more Championship standard.
And Haaland, when asked about Keane’s comments after the win over Wolves, bluntly said: “I don’t care about that man.”
Fans were quick to react to Haaland’s statement. One person wrote on Twitter: “There is no better reaction than this.” Another commented: “The best striker in the world! Roy Keane needs to keep his head down.” While another person commented: “Man United legend is nothing to Haaland.”
Keane had a terrible tackle on Haaland’s father Alfie in 2001 during the Manchester derby. He later revealed in his book that it was an act of revenge. Keane said that Alfie Haaland had accused him of faking an injury four years earlier while he was in pain after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Since then, the two have become “enemies” and Alfie always celebrates wildly every time Haaland scores against Man United.
