ARSENAL put the pressure on Manchester City in the title chase with a 3-0 defeat of Bournemouth.
Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, and Declan Rice all scored to secure an overwhelming victory at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Arsenal are now FOUR points ahead of defending champions City, who have one game in hand and face Wolves this afternoon. But who was the best player on Mikel Arteta’s team? Did anyone have a game to forget.
DAVID RAYA: 7/10
I spent the first half as a spectator. In the 53rd minute, he was called into action to defend Dominic Solanke’s near post goal.
TAKEHIRO TOMIYASU – 7
Rewarded with another start at left-back, he nearly slipped in at the back post with a header from a corner in the first half.
WILLIAM SALIBA – 8
Given a rollicking from Arteta inside the first few minutes for not being аggressive enough. Responded with a goal-saving tackle on Solanke, and nearly scored himself. As Arsenal fell down after the interval, Saliba’s comeback runs and tackles were invaluable.
Gabriel – 6.
In the 17th minute, he almost cost his team the game by sloppily squandering the ball in defence. Fortunately for him, Saliba was there to save the day.
Was then involved in a nasty altercation in which Bournemouth scored but were inexplicably rejected by VAR, who also threw out his magnificent goal for offside.
BEN WHITE – 7.
He had his job cut out against Justin Kluivert and was unable to drive forward as he often does. He remained strong and was subjected to hardship at times, but he did his duty.
When it counted, he delivered the goods, with his long pass to Saka setting up Arsenal’s second goal.
DECLAN RICE – 9
At his physical, galloping, and captivating finest.
Missed a golden opportunity in the 38th minute after a Havertz knock-down, but remained calm when his team needed him, particularly when cleaning up a loose ball and laying on a plate for Trossard’s score.
To cap it all, a lung-busting surge into the box from Jesus’ pass resulted in a fantastic strike from a narrow angle.
THOMAS PARTEY – 7.
Quietly productive in the middle of the pitch. He appears to have regained full fitness and nearly struck the bottom corner with a curled strike.
MARTIN ODEGAARD, 8
Slick passing in the channels from the start nearly led to an early goal, and he led his team through a sticky stretch in the second half to victory.
BUKAYO SAKA – 7.
Lively, but rather inefficient throughout the first half. Ryan Christie’s studs-up challenge went unpunished, and I was the victim.
All was forgiven when he calmly placed his penalty down the middle shortly before halftime. A rash first-time shot early in the second half should have resulted in a second goal.
LEANDRO TROSSARD – 7.
In the opening ten minutes, I had two excellent opportunities that were prevented by some high blocks. He kept pushing and eventually scored with a quick counter-аttаck.
KAI HAVERTZ – 9
Elegant back-heel for White in the box to tee up a chance for Trossard and was provider again for Rice with a header before winning a penalty off of a Mark Travers lunge.
A proper nuisance with a soft touch to match. Set up Saka which should have made it 2-0 and involved in everything good about Arsenal. Mr Undroppable.
