Arsenal’s David Raya wins Premier League Golden Glove Award when Clean Sheet Tally becomes unbeatable

David Raya has earned the Premier League Golden Glove after Everton’s Jordan Pickford failed to keep a clean sheet on Friday. Raya has 14 clean sheets in 29 league appearances for Arsenal this season, which puts him ahead of Pickford, who has 12 clean sheets with two games remaining. Raya is presently on loan with Arsenal from Brentford.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award, with a record 14 clean sheets.

Raya has kept 14 clean sheets in 29 league appearances for Arsenal this season.

Jordan Pickford, his primary rival, needed to keep Everton’s clean sheet against Luton Town this evening but was unable to do so in the 1-1 draw.

With two games remaining for Everton and 12 clean sheets thus far, Pickford can now only match Raya, who has three games left for Arsenal.

Raya becomes Arsenal’s first Golden Glove winner since Petr Cech in 2015-16, when he kept 16 clean sheets as the Gunners finished second in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta may feel vindicated by his goalkeeper’s clean sheet record this season. The Arsenal boss faced criticism for replacing Aaron Ramsdale with Raya, who joined the club on a season-long loan from Brentford in August.

Ramsdale had played all 38 of Arsenal’s Premier League games the previous season, maintaining 14 clean sheets.

However, Raya became Arteta’s apparent first-choice goalkeeper from September onwards, and he remained so even after making two blunders in Arsenal’s 4-3 victory against Luton Town in December.

He became a hero after saving two penalties in Arsenal’s shootout triumph over Porto in the UEFA Champions League, advancing his team to the quarterfinals.

TNT Sports expert Martin Keown stated Raya’s performance throughout the shootout converted doubters into believers.

“There was an anxiety in the stadium when he first came into the Arsenal team,” recalled Keown. “You see now, there’s a belief in him and there’s a unity now.”
