The New York Knicks have been linked to Anthony Davis amid rumors of significant personnel adjustments should Los Angeles fall to Denver in the first round of the playoffs.
According to an anonymous NBA general manager who spoke with Heavy Sports’ Sean Deveney, if the Lakers determine their current core has reached its limit and elect to trade Davis, a deal with New York would be their best option.
“A few things must be accomplished if you are serious about trading Davis at some point,” the general manager stated. “You must lead him to the destination he desires. His aspiration is to join the Laker community. Therefore, if you decide to trade him, you must ensure that he is sent to a reputable team in a favorable market, and you must avoid severing ties with (Davis’s representatives at Klutch Sports).
“You require a group that is prepared to accept his financial investment. Because it is quite a bit. Additionally, you require a team that can supply you with draft choices. In reality, only one team meets the bill, and that team is the New York Knicks. It would not be difficult to reach an agreement there. You are able to align the salaries. It is possible to package an abundance of choices. You may substitute a juvenile player. You are permitted to accept a remuneration that the Lakers may not be interested in. I meаn, he is a single individual, and a tremendous haul is possible here.”
Trading Davis would be complicated, according to Deveney, because of his $177 million extension that begins in 2025-26.
Additionally, the Lakers must determine that the time has arrived to blоw it up in order for a Davis trade to occur.
