The Premier League winners wore the unusual strip for the first time before their most recent Premier League game against Newcastle.
Manchester City have unveiled a new Sergio Aguero-inspired training kit to commemorate the Argentinian striker’s title-winning goal against QPR in 2012.
At the end of the 2011-12 season, Aguero produced one of the most memorable Premier League goals in history, hitting a stoppage-time winner for City to cap off a spectacular comeback.
The Manchester club won their first trophy owing to the strike, and they have now unveiled a new jersey in tribute to the Argentine, whose ten-year tenure with the club ended last summer.
What does Manchester City’s new training kit look like?
City’s new training kit is white with horizontal stripes of the club’s trademark light blue, as well as gold trim around the crest. The light blue background also has images of Aguero’s memorable goal.
Manchester City has collaborated with Puma to release the limited-edition 93:20 pre-match jersey, as well as special-edition football boots featuring the same colour palette as the striker’s against QPR.
Pep Guardiola’s team donned the strip for the first time while warming up before their 5-0 Premier League home win over Newcastle on Sunday, celebrating the goal’s tenth anniversary in style.
On May 13, the 93:20 kit will be available for purchase in Puma outlets and at City’s club shop.
What did Aguero say about the jersey?
Aguero scored 260 goals for City between 2011 and 2021, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer, before joining Barcelona on a free transfer after his final contract expired.
The 33-year-old was forced into early retirement in December owing to a heart ailment, but he remembers his time in Manchester fondly and was moved by their recent homage.
“This is a huge honour for me. I had many fantastic years with Manchester City, but the 93:20 goal was particularly memorable,” Aguero stated during the unveiling of the new training shirt.
“The atmosphere in the stadium, the comeback, the title, I have never experienced anything like it.”
