After just one season, Bronny James’s high-profile stay at USC may be coming to an end.
LeBron James said to reporters following the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday that his kid has some “tough decisions to make,” amid rumors that Bronny may be considering using the transfer portal.
Andy Enfield, who has been with the team since 2013, was appointed as SMU’s head coach on April 1 after the Mustangs fired Rоb Lanier, meaning USC would have a new head coach for the upcoming season. During his time with the Trojans, he finished 220-147 and made five trips to the NCAA tournament.
When James committed to USC in May 2023, the expectations were ridiculously high. He was regarded as one of the best recruits in the class of 2022 when he arrived on campus.
According to 247Sports, Bronny was classified as a 4-star prоspect and the 28th best player overall in the 2023 class. Led by James and Isaiah Collier, USC boasted the third-ranked class in the country.
On July 25, during a practice, James experienced a heart arrest as USC got ready for the season. He had a congenital cardiac problem, which could be properly cured and would enable him to return to the court, it was subsequently discovered.
James played in his first college game on December 10 after missing the first eight games of the regular season. In a victory over Long Beach State, he finished with four points, three rebounds, and two assists in 16 minutes of bench action.
James played in all 25 of the Trojans’ remaining games, starting six of them. The 19-year-old had a difficult first season, averaging 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 4.8 points on 36.6 percent shooting per game.
With a poor 15–18 record at the end of the season, USC was eliminated from the NCAA tournament for the first time in four years after losing to Arizona in the second round of the Pac-12 tournament.
James has no shortage of possible suitors in the event that he chooses to finish his academic education somewhere else. It’s only been a year since he was considered one of the best recruits. Now that he knows how to address it, the health problems that he dealt with before to the start of his freshman season should be completely behind him.
