Following the Golden State Warriors’ crucial 117-113 road win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, rookie player Brandin Podziemski heaped praise on his experienced colleague, Draymond Green.
Green, who has been the perpetrator of unnecessary dirty acts on the court both recently and during his career, has unquestionably played a significant role in the Warriors’ success throughout time. Even as he nears the end of his career, he continues to have an impact on the franchise’s present and future.
“He’s a key reason why we’ve won 14 of 17 road games; he effects the game in so many ways. His influence outside the basketball court is enormous for all of the young guys. He instills confidence in us. Tonight he was playing like he was at Michigan State; he was doing everything, shooting the ball well, and playing well, which was nice to witness, especially as a young player.” – Warriors youngster Brandin Podziemski discusses Draymond Green’s impact.

Golden State’s new guard has played 26.7 minutes a game this season.
The Warriors have recently experimented with two timelines at once, hoping to continue winning under Stephen Curry while also bringing in new talent. While Golden State was able to win the 2022 NBA Championship with this lineup, the team’s aging All-Stars and subpar play from the rest of the roster made it appear that this season would mark the end of their famous dynasty.
Inconsistent play plagued both established players and the youthful core during the first half of the season, leading to Podziemski, the 18th overall choice in the 2023 NBA Draft, being trusted to play a significant role almost immediately.
Despite earning spot minutes to begin the season, Podziemski was promoted to the Warriors’ starting lineup in December, replacing stalwart Klay Thompson, who has had a very up-and-down season himself. In this higher capacity, Podziemski thrived and continues to have a significant impact on the squad even as he switches responsibilities.
Given Podziemski’s rapid climb to prominence as a rookie, the Warriors may be more motivated to trade fellow rookie Moses Moody for a more veteran player this summer.
