Promising Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri has signed his first professional contract with the club, putting an end to speculation about a potential move to Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea. There are already talks underway for a further contract extension when Nwaneri turns 18. While details of his new wages remain undisclosed, it is worth noting that fellow academy graduates Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe were reportedly earning around £3,000 per week upon signing their initial professional contracts.

Nwaneri made history in September 2022 when, at the age of 15 years and 181 days, he became the youngest player to ever feature in a Premier League match, coming off the bench in a 3-0 victory against Brentford. Arteta has continued to provide the teenager with opportunities in the Premier League, including a substitute appearance in a 6-0 win over West Ham in February.

Expressing his joy at signing the contract, Nwaneri stated that it was a proud moment for him and his family. He emphasized his commitment to keep working hard and expressed his gratitude to the coaching staff for their support in his development. Nwaneri also expressed his deep connection to Arsenal, describing the club as his family and home.

Arsenal’s Academy Manager, Per Mertesacker, praised Nwaneri’s ball control and ability to dominate possession, highlighting these qualities as core principles at the club. Mertesacker expressed excitement about working with Nwaneri in the coming years and his potential for growth.

Arteta played an active role in the contract negotiations, ensuring that the young talent remained at Arsenal despite interest from other clubs. Nwaneri’s skill on the ball has drawn comparisons to players like Phil Foden, Jack Wilshere, and current Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard. He has also impressed senior players by training with the first team and being included in Champions League matchday squads.

With an impressive record of 14 goals in 14 games this season in the youth system, Nwaneri has shown his undeniable talent and potential for a bright future at Arsenal.
