Kobbie Mainoo was caught speaking with a Manchester United transfer target who might play alongside the teenager in the Red Devils’ midfield for the next decade. Amadou Onana, like Mainoo, excelled during England’s friendly against Belgium at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night, and the Everton player is apparently on United’s radar.
Mainoo was the standout player in the Wembley friendly, earning the title of Man of the Match. The Stockport native made his Three Lions debut and looked right at home in midfield for 75 minutes alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.
During the match, however, eagle-eyed United fans observed Mainoo conversing with midfielder Onana, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Midway through the second half, the two were seen conversing, with United supporter @AidanWalshMUFC reacting on X by saying: “A midfield of Mainoo and Onana, we would be set for 10 years.”
While @UTDMist commented, “Kobbie Mainoo bro. We know what you’re doing out there, and we enjoy it. Onana joins Manchester United.” @utdbrxy said, “Onana protecting Mainoo in midfield…we need that.”
Whereas @htomufc stated, “Loving this Onana-Mainoo clash. It’s easy to see how their relationship would thrive.”
And @UTDNosa1 hinted at a probable transfer by writing, “A potential Kobbie Mainoo X Amadou Onana midfield partnership on the Cards?”
The embrace between Mainoo and Onana comes as reports suggest that United may make a play for the latter when the window opens. According to The Manchester Evening News, Onana is being monitored by the Old Trafford leadership, along with Everton teammate Jarrad Branthwaite.
Branthwaite, like Onana, has attracted the interest of Sean Dyche at Everton, and the defender is expected to transfer this summer. However, if United wants to get the Goodison Park duo to the club, they may have to spend big, as Everton is believed to demand high costs.
Despite the Merseyside club’s well-documented financial troubles, Dyche has revealed Everton are not under any pressure to sell their top players over the off-season. The Everton manager stated lately, “We don’t want to sell any good players, it’s as simple as that…” We don’t try to sell players. You only sell players when absolutely necessary or when there is an issue. There is no problem. So I’m just hoping we don’t have to sell players.”
