Oscar Bobb and Erling Haaland were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw after Norway was defeated by a late Slovakia equaliser.Alexander Sorloth’s early strike appeared to be enough for the hosts, as Norway fired 19 efforts at Slovakia’s goal throughout the course of 90 minutes.
The attacker pounced on the rebound after Bobb’s initial corner kick was cleared off the line after 18 minutes.
City’s youth, who had scored Norway’s goal in a 2-1 loss to the Czech Republic earlier in the international break, was still causing problems for the visitors, combining with Martin Odegaard and forcing a save from Marek Rodak on the stroke of half-time.
Haaland went close before the break, shooting just wide of the far post, and the hosts had the ball in the net again in stoppage time, but the goal was ruled out owing to a foul in the build-up.
It was a similar situation after the restart, with Norway’s dominance providing Haaland with a chance to increase their lead from the spot after Mohamed Elyounoussi was hauled down inside the area.
The City forward’s penalty seemed destined for the bottom corner, but Rodak guessed correctly and made an excellent save from 12 yards.
Both Haaland and Bobb were replaced just after the hour as Norway continued to turn the screw, but the visitors secured a share of the spoils thanks to some late drama.
Ondrej Duda scored the equaliser with a brilliant slalom through the hosts’ defence before blasting into the top corner from close range.
Slovakia even believed they had stolen it late into stoppage time when Adam Obert reacted first to an aerial pass, only for Orjan Nyland to make a fantastic save and keep the draw.
