Lisandro Martinez’s season has not gone as planned, as he underwent surgery just one month into the season. Following his return in January, he suffered an MCL injury in only his second start of 2024.

Martinez’s call-up to Argentina’s international squad earlier this month raised some eyebrows.

Argentina Training Session

He has spent the last few days in the United States, preparing ahead of their 3-0 victory over El Salvador in Philadelphia, in which Alejandro Garnacho played a key part.

Lisandro Martinez departs the Argentina squad.

Argentina’s squad is traveling from America’s east coast to the west coast for a friendly against Costa Rica on Wednesday morning at 2.50 a.m. UK time.

According to TyC Sports, Lisandro Martinez has decided to leave the squad. Rather of traveling further away from his club, he is now returning to Manchester.

Argentina’s coaching team has determined that Martinez’s growth and performance in training sessions last week have met their expectations.

According to the news release: “The defender completed a week of good training, most of them on par with the group, and will return to the city of Manchester, England, to continue with the last part of the recovery from an injury that he has been carrying since the beginning of February.”

He will now return to Carrington to continue his recovery from injury and be evaluated by Manchester United’s coaching team.

Alejandro Garnacho continues with the Argentina team for the midweek friendly. He has received accolades from his teammates.

Lisandro Martinez will be evaluated at Manchester United.

Martinez’s mood would have improved after spending time with his Argentina teammates.

He will now be inspected at Manchester United ahead of Saturday’s away game against Brentford.

Martinez’s return was previously planned for this match, but he will have to show his fitness first.

United also have injury concerns with Harry Maguire, who returned early from England duty after suffering an injury, and Jonny Evans, who was not called up to Northern Ireland owing to an ongoing issue.
