According to Caught Offside, Manchester United could attempt to capture Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer this summer, when his current contract expires.
According to the source, the £148,000-a-week Frenchman is “being considered as a low-cost option as he nears the end of his contract” and an alternative to highly touted Benfica teenager Joao Neves.
Rabiot has long been a target for United, and he has been linked with a move at Old Trafford several times, so it is easy to see him joining the Ratcliffe revolution this summer.
Admittedly, he will be 29 years old next month, so he isn’t definitely a long-term solution in the middle of the park, but he would be a younger and more dynamic choice than Casemiro or Christian Eriksen. David Trezeguet, a former France international, has previously praised him, saying:
“We’re talking about an issue for Juventus because, while he may have received criticism in Italy, the situation in France is very different. He is a world-class, outstanding player. Now he’ll consider his alternatives and return to being the significant player he always was.”
Rabiot has four goals and three assists in Serie A this season, contributing from the midfield, but he also averages 1.8 tackles per game, demonstrating his effectiveness off the ball. He appears to be at the prime of his career, and given that he is available on a free transfer, United should consider him.
