Center-back Harry Maguire suffered an injury and left England’s camp to return to Manchester.
Harry Maguire withdrew from the England squad due to injury
Harry Maguire entered the field in the second half of the friendly match between England and Brazil last weekend. Recently, the “Three Lions” confirmed that Maguire could not attend the match against Belgium and this player also withdrew from the team due to injury. Kyle Walker and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone also suffered injuries and left the team. This means that coach Southgate must use some players from the U21 team to fill the gap.
A statement from the England team said: “James Trafford and Rico Lewis have been transferred from the U21 team to join the England national team. These two players arrived at Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground after Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker and Sam Johnstone left the team due to injury.
This is the first time Burnley goalkeeper Trafford has been called up to the national team. Previously, he played for the team from U17 to U21 level, being a member of the England U21 team that won the Euro championship last summer. Man City’s Lewis has made one international appearance, making his debut against North Macedonia in November 2023. Maguire, Walker and Johnstone have returned to their clubs for assessment after suffering injuries in Recent days”.
Maguire made his first start since February 24 but only played 67 minutes against Brazil. The English player has missed many matches this season due to a groin injury.
