Kobbie Mainoo sets Euro 2024 ‘Big Goals’ 48 hours following England call-up

Kobbie Mainoo received his first call-up to the senior England squad this week, and the teenager has already set his sights on a spot on the aircraft to Germany for this summer’s European Championship.

When he arrived at St George’s Park earlier this week, the Manchester United youngster was eager to join the U21 squad. When he got there, he discovered that Gareth Southgate had promoted him to the senior team.

Mainoo has spent the day thinking on the previous 48 hours, which saw him surpass a milestone by being called up to Southgate’s current team.

“That’s the end goal of the season, to get into that squad,” Mainoo stated, according to the Daily Mail. “It would be an honor to be able to make the flight. There is plenty of time between now and then. If I go back to my club and perform well, hopefully everything will fall into place.

“But it’s been a crazy couple of days. Sunday (United’s 4-3 FA Cup victory over Liverpool) was obviously a fantastic game, and I was thrilled to be called up to the Under 21s.

“Getting down here and discovering I was on the first team was incredible. I was both astonished and delighted; it’s been a rollercoaster of feelings.”

Mainoo was then questioned if he anticipated to be called up.

The youthful midfielder added: “The games at United have been so rapid that I haven’t had much time to think about it.

“Obviously, I was aware that the international break was approaching, so I gave it some thought, but we had so many important games that I couldn’t take my eyes off the ball. But now I’m here, taking it all in; it’s been incredible.”

England face Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, and United fans are expected to tune in to see if Mainoo makes his Three Lions debut. The last thing we need is for him to sustain an injury while on international duty.
