If a Manchester United supporter ever wanted to create a football script for his own team, it was performed in front of a boisterous Old Trafford crowd on Sunday.
It was so wonderful for Erik ten Hag and his players that even the much-maligned Antony turned up, scored a critical equalizing goal to send the game to extra time, and had his best moment at the club yet.
The 24-year-old has had to deal with a lot of vitriolic abuse since his big-money move to Manchester United from Ajax, but when he reacted to yesterday’s victory on Instagram, he made it plain that it was ‘an incredible day’.
Antony’s present and former colleagues, including Harry Maguire and David de Gea, praised and complimented him in the comments section of his Instagram post.
Antony and Harry Maguire didn’t start the game.
They both came on at the same time, after 71 minutes, and Amad Diallo scored in extra time to seal one of the most dramatic FA Cup finishes.
Harry Maguire and David De Gea praise Antony
‘What a performance,” said Maguire, while de Ga added ‘You deserve a lot, brother’ and West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus sent a praying hands and love emoji to the Manchester United player.
Anthony’s right foot
A lot has gone wrong for the Brazil star since joining the club, but you can’t deny him this moment.
Typically, the player has relied solely on his left foot, which has caused him problems because it has made him far too predictable.
Even the excellent Virgil van Dijk was tricked here, as Antony swivelled onto his right foot and neatly slotted the ball home, sending the game into extra time.
It is without a doubt the best moment of his Manchester United career thus far, and it is well deserved!
