However, there were also more standout performers, including Mainoo, who we thought was outstanding from the number six position until his substitution in the 80th minute.

Mainoo’s ball management from the centre of the park was exceptional, and he won an outstanding seven ground duels while completing all of his tackles (2/2).

The club graduate also completed 100% of his dribbles (4/4) and made two interceptions.

Mainoo has matured beyond his years since his debut this season, and he appeared to be at ease in midfield until Erik ten Hag replaced him.

The €35 million-rated star could have played for the entire 120 minutes, but Ten Hag made the correct decision because the teenager’s workload must be managed carefully.

Emerging talents like Pedri have suffered injury setbacks as a result of poor game-time management. Mainoo must be appropriately controlled during his development phase.

United clearly have a superstar on their hands for the future. In the long run, he, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Amad Diallo might form a very successful team.
