Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports that Anthony Davis, a star for the Los Angeles Lakers, has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s contest against the Golden State Warriors due to an eye contusion, as announced by the team.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that Davis experienced a corneal abrasion.
During the initial quarter, Warriors forward Trayce Jackson-Davis unintentionally caused an eye jab to Davis as he attempted to drive towards the basket. Prior to his departure, he accumulated eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in twelve minutes.
Davis has appeared in the most games this season since he played 62 in 2019-20; durability has not been an issue. However, due to hip and Achilles injuries, he most recently missed a January 30 defeat to the Atlanta Hawks and a February 1 victory over the Boston Celtics.
Since November, the 31-year-old has been coping with hip problems, which is not ideal for the Lakers as they strive to climb the standings and make the playoffs.
With a 36-31 record, the Purple and Gold are currently tenth in the Western Conference despite a difficult season.
Davis is having a respectable season despite the team’s overall struggles, averaging 24.7 points, 12.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 blocks in 63 games on an average of 55.2 percent from the floor and 26.3 percent from deep.
In order for the Lakers to threaten for the postseason, both LeBron James and Anthony Davis will need to remain healthy.
However, in order to fully contend with an elite squad such as the Minnesota Timberwolves and reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets, the team needs to see improved play from others, including D’Angelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie.
