Predicted Man United XI vs Liverpool at FA Cup Semi-Final: Hojlund back to lead attack, Wan-Bissaka & Maguire also to return

As the injury situation at Old Trafford begins to lighten, five Manchester United stars could return to face Liverpool on Sunday.

At his pre-match press conference, manager Erik ten Hag announced that Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, and Rasmus Hojlund all trained this week and are expected to return.

He also mentioned that Tom Heaton and Mason Mount have resumed training.

Heaton could find himself on the bench as it was reported today that Altay Bayindir will miss the match due to injury. Andre Onana will, of course, be first choice in goal in all cases.

Wan-Bissaka might be thrown back into the action at right back, allowing Diogo Dalot to move to left back in the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Victor Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat have both been used as fill-ins, but neither seemed comfortable, so while there is a danger in rushing Wan-Bissaka back, Ten Hag may be willing to take a chance in a game that might decide his entire career at United.

Maguire may also return straight away to partner Raphael Varane at centre back, but we believe Ten Hag will remain with Lindelof, who is match fit. Jonny Evans is apparently injured, as he has withdrawn from the Northern Ireland squad for the next international matches. Lisandro Martinez is nearing fitness and has been called up for Argentina, although he is unlikely to play on Sunday.

In midfield, we anticipate the same pairing of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro behind Bruno Fernandes.

Amrabat, Scott McTominay, and Christian Eriksen are possibilities, while Mount may only make the bench.

Hojlund has just been out for a few weeks and will very certainly return as a centre forward, allowing Marcus Rashford to return to his preferred left flank position and Alejandro Garnacho to play on the right.

Antony and Amad are improbable options. Anthony Martial is still sidelined, and it’s uncertain whether Omari Forson has recovered from a knock.

Keeping that in mind, here is our expected starting lineup for Sunday’s 3.30pm kick-off at Old Trafford.
