Manchester United’s stars were out in force as they headed to a team-bonding supper.
First-team players and staff gathered as they prepared for Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.
Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, and Marcus Rashford competed against Erik ten Hag, Steve McLaren, and Darren Fletcher in the style stakes.
The team went to the upscale Ivy Asia restaurant in Manchester, where a wagyu steak costs £62.
The match against Liverpool is the club’s last chance to win a trophy this season and will be critical in determining Erik ten Hag’s future.
They are presently sixth in the Premier League, eight points behind fourth-placed Villa, as their Champions League prospects diminish.
Following their 3-1 setback to City earlier this month, Ten Hag accepted the team’s failing top-four campaign, saying: “It can be an advantage that fifth place can also be a Champions League spot, so we have to go for it and win our games.”
Following a rough start to the season, United finished last in their Champions League group and were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Newcastle.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe was hardly supportive of Ten Hag in his first media interview since buying in the team.
When asked about the manager’s future, Ratcliffe replied, “I’m not going to comment on his performance because it would be wrong.
“You cannot blame all of the coaches. The only conclusion is that the setting in which they worked did not function properly.
“Erik has been in that environment, and what we need to do is ensure the environment, organisation, and people in the structure are correct.
“We have to do that bit, so I’m not really focused on the coach, but on getting that part correct. It is not my place to pass judgment on it.
“However, during our time in business, we have taken some difficult decisions. We’ll just be sensible about it, weigh the evidence, and make a fair decision.
“We are not a violent organisation. But sometimes you have to make unpopular decisions.”
United did have a great league result last time around, defeating Everton 2-0 at home.
They also performed well against Liverpool the last time they met, drawing 0-0 in December.
They’ll be looking to take inspiration from that as they aim for a semi-final spot at Wembley.
Jurgen Klopp’s team, meanwhile, is on track for a quadruple. They have already won the Carabao Cup, led Sparta Prague 5-1 in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 first leg, and are second in the Premier League with the same points as leaders Arsenal.
