EXCL: Mason Greenwood ‘very close’ to leave, as Man Utd chief John Murtough has been spotted in talks with Barcelona

Manchester United football director John Murtough has been filmed in Barcelona with the club’s director of negotiations, Matt Hargreaves, amid speculation about Mason Greenwood. The Red Devils are apparently looking at an interesting swap deal that would see Greenwood make a permanent move to Nou Camp this summer.

On Monday, Spanish site Jijantes published a video of Murtough and Hargreaves meeting a group of people in the sunny city.

Among them were Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, and two CAA Base agents, Frank Tramboli and Fede Massai.

CAA Base is not known to represent any Barcelona players, which prompted questions as Greenwood remains linked with a summer move.

The 22-year-old forward has no official representation, with his father playing a key part in talks throughout his career.

Murtough and Hargreaves could have been in Spain to help Greenwood secure a big move when his season-long loan at Getafe finishes.

He has impressed while resuming his career with Madrid, scoring eight goals and giving five assists in 26 games.

Greenwood’s achievements have apparently sparked strong interest from La Liga’s top clubs, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona are among Mason Greenwood's suits.

The video of Murtough meeting Deco, Tramboli, and Massai comes just a few days after Sport reported that the Blaugrana had made a play for Greenwood.

Last week, it was reported that the reigning La Liga winners viewed him as a low-cost alternative in anticipation of United’s apparent desire to cash in and settle speculation about his future.

According to the source, Barcelona had already called United to inquire about Greenwood’s condition, which came to light after Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed his £1.3 billion takeover in the club in February.

Ratcliffe pushed on a “fresh” judgment on the Bradford-born striker following Richard Arnold’s apparent late U-turn on intentions to reintegrate him into Erik ten Hag’s squad this season.

However, it has been unlikely that United would allow Greenwood to return at the start of a new era under the INEOS name.

RUMOR: Real Madrid and Barcelona in a transfer battle for Mason Greenwood

The Red Devils need to raise monies this summer to increase their transfer budget, and Greenwood represents an excellent prospect for pure profit.

According to Sport, United are interested in the potential at Barcelona’s La Masia, one of the world’s most famous football academies.

The Catalan giants might reduce Greenwood’s asking price by including some of United’s desired young players in the deal.
